Ye ask me, who art thou? And I confess, and deny not; but confess, I am not the Messiah.

Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Messiah, but that I am sent before Him.

Yea, He that cometh from above is above all: but he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

What then? Art thou Elijah? And I saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And I answer, no.

Then who art thou? What sayest thou of thyself?

If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

I am one that bears witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

Behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Elijah. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Sprit, and with fire: whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for He was before me.

But I am full of the indignation of Yehovah; I am weary with holding it in. Yea, your anger against them burns in me too, Yehovah, and I can't hold it in any longer and I'm tired of holding it back.

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy Word.

And ye -- who do ye say me to be?
